Order of the Sinking Star Switch 2 Performance

The October 7 Switch 2 reviews and launch-week player reports provide useful but qualitative observations. CGMagazine reports drops docked and handheld in larger or interconnected areas; Nintendo Everything gives a more positive overall judgment; WayTooManyGames reports poor handheld performance and a docked display fault. None identifies an exact build or supplies an instrumented frame-rate or native-resolution test. Through October 13, the checked update notes are Steam-specific and no Switch 2 patch or before/after benchmark was confirmed.

What the original Switch 2 reviewers observed

These authors played the full-release review version; each row preserves the conditions they actually state.

Reviewer / dateMode and sceneReported finding
Jordan Biordi — CGMagazine, October 7Docked and handheld; larger or connected areasFrame drops in both display modes; no numerical test method given.
Jeremy Rice — Nintendo Everything, October 7Switch 2; individual display mode unstatedOverall performance judged good; rewind sometimes misplaced blocks in the pre-launch copy. A promised patch was not a verified result.
Leo Faria — WayTooManyGames, October 7Handheld play; docked testing obstructedPoor frame rate and crashes reported. A TV display fault prevented a usable docked comparison.

The shared concern is demanding scenes and technical faults, while their judgments differ. A frame drop noticed during a review is useful buying context, but it is not a frame-time capture or a lowest-frame-rate measurement. Faria’s suggested resolution mismatch was explicitly a guess; it cannot supply a 720p or 1080p rendering specification.

TV and handheld mode tradeoffs reported by players

Docked Quality / Auto
bladejb343 describes a clearer image with less consistent fluidity. tac_lacora separately reports an Auto option; their short session did not reveal a problem.
Docked Performance
bladejb343 and Batyara describe smoother movement with a rougher image. Their estimated frame rates are visual impressions, not captured benchmarks.
Handheld
bladejb343 and Batyara report Performance-only choices. Other owners disagree about sharpness and smoothness, so their accounts do not establish one experience for every room or build.

Phnaut reports significant docked overworld drops after about an hour; reverso13 describes slow handheld overworld play after roughly two hours. Darthmail instead reports a sharp, smooth handheld experience. Those posts identify useful conditions to compare when considering the portable edition, but none provides an exact build, render-resolution measurement or controlled frame-time test.

A Steam patch does not establish a Switch 2 result

The October 9 and October 12 update notes reviewed here are published for the Steam game. They describe Steam/Proton compatibility, checkpoint, level and visual fixes; they do not identify a Switch 2 build or confirm a console rollout. A patch note on Steam cannot establish that the Switch 2 version received the same change.

As of October 13, the checked sources contain no confirmed Switch 2 patch identifier and no matched before/after performance result. That is the answer to the update question for this evidence set; it does not mean that no console update exists outside the sources checked. Compare docked and handheld experience in the same large or interconnected areas, and do not treat a video label or reviewer estimate as a native-resolution or FPS measurement.

The Steam Deck support guide covers a separate handheld PC test account and should not be read as a Switch 2 benchmark.
