Order of the Sinking Star Cross-Save & Cloud Saves

Order of the Sinking Star lists Steam Cloud for the Steam edition and Save Data Cloud for Nintendo Switch 2. These are separate platform services. In a June 2026 reply, Kenzie, who identified herself as working on the game, said Steam Deck progress could carry to PC on Steam but saves would not carry to other platforms. That pre-launch statement is not an October transfer test: do not purchase a second ecosystem’s edition assuming your existing save will follow.

Cloud backup belongs to its own platform

A cloud-backup service does not convert a save for another ecosystem.

Steam-to-console progress: the actual scope of the answer

The June demo help thread contains a direct answer to a player hoping to continue on Switch: Kenzie / Knz0rb said Deck-to-PC progress on Steam could carry, while other platform transfers would not. The author states she works on the game; this page preserves that attribution instead of treating the reply as a newly issued launch support document.

Neither a Steam Cloud logo nor Nintendo’s cloud-backup listing supplies a Steam-to-PS5 or Steam-to-Switch import procedure. For a buying decision, keep your current ecosystem if continuing the existing save is essential, unless a later game-specific transfer announcement establishes another supported route.

Continue between Steam devices without overwriting progress

  • Use the same Steam account on the source and destination devices, with cloud synchronization enabled for the game. Valve allows users to disable it globally or per game.
  • Exit the game on the device holding your newest progress and allow synchronization to finish before opening it on the other device. Valve describes uploads after exit and downloads before the next launch.
  • Check that the destination campaign reflects the progress you expected before continuing. If it is older, preserve the source device’s save and investigate the synchronization state before creating competing new progress.

These precautions describe Steam Cloud behavior. Moving from the June demo to the full game is a separate edition-transfer question; cloud sync alone does not establish that import operation.

Local files and recovery limits

PCGamingWiki lists the Windows full-game save directory as %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Order of the Sinking Star\. The configuration file settings.menu_state is listed separately. Keep an untouched backup before replacing files; the path is not a recipe for importing into a console edition.

Steam Cloud copies the files configured by the developer and is not an unlimited save-history service. Keep the device with the last known good progress available while resolving a mismatch. On PS5, Sony provides “View Sync Status” and “Check Sync Status of Saved Data” to inspect the platform’s sync state.
